The Kennewick Kiwanis Foundation awarded 13 scholarships to students pursuing college degrees. Scholarships come from the Foundation’s endowments donated by past and present Kiwanians, as well as citizens in our community (please see the kennewickkiwanisfoundation.com website for more information). Generous donations were also received this year during our 25th Anniversary celebration. Scholarships are $1,000 annual awards (some increasing to $2,000) and awards are renewable for up to four academic years. This year, the 13 scholastic winners are:
- The Victor “Red” Rutherford Scholarship: Anna Farias-Gomez graduated from Kennewick High and is going to Columbia Basin College to pursue a nursing degree.
- The Donald Anderson Scholarship: Alexandra Petersen graduated from Kamiakin High and is going to Cal Poly Humboldt to pursue a psychology degree.
- The George J. Jones Scholarship: Jordan Vasquez-Evans graduated from Kennewick High and is going to Eastern Washington University to pursue a business degree.
- The Henry Sauer Scholarship: Meredith Winiarski graduated from Southridge High and is going to the University of Washington to pursue an engineering degree.
- The Walteen Corson Scholarship: Lauren Bell graduated from Southridge High and is going to Columbia Basin College to pursue a dental hygiene degree.
- The Art Carson Scholarship: Meigan Crowder graduated from Southridge High and is going to University of Washington to pursue a biology degree.
- The Joan Rude Scholarship: Zugehilee Angel graduated from Southridge High and is going to the University of Washington to pursue a medical degree.
- The Rick Corson Scholarship: Josephine Ruesch graduated from River View High and is going to WSU Tri-Cities to pursue a biology degree.
- The Kennewick Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship in memory of Lee Haberling: Melanie Petersen graduated from Kamiakin High and is going to Whitworth University to pursue an elementary education degree.
- The Kennewick Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship in memory of Dean Strawn: Hailey Dreier graduated from Kennewick High and is going to Edmonds College to pursue a general studies degree.
- The Kennewick Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship: Wendy Sanchez graduated from Kennewick High and is going to the University of Washington to pursue a medical degree.
- The Kennewick Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship: Nayancy Otero graduated from Kennewick High and is going to WSU Tri-Cities to pursue a counseling degree.
- The Kennewick Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship: Skyln Munson graduated from River View High and is going to Clark College to pursue a sports and physical therapy degree.
